Archbishop Kaziimba, 5Bishops set to retire.

KAMPALA/KABALE: The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda The Most Rev. Dr Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu has begun his farewell visits to Dioceses across the Province. The Church of Uganda’s/Province is composed of 39dioceses.

According to Sadiiki Adams the Church of Uganda’s communications officer/Archbishop’s press secretary, Archbishop Kaziimba is set to retire on 15th August 2027 after clocking Church of Uganda’s constitutional retirement age of 65 years.

Archbishop Kaziimba was enthroned as the 9th Archbishop of the Church of Uganda on March 1, 2020. He succeeded Stanley Ntagali at a ceremony held at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe, having been elected to the position on August 28, 2019. 

On his X account (formerly twitter), Sadiiki also disclosed that in the same year, five other Bishops are equally set to retire.

 They include Rt .Rev Gaddie Akanjuna the Bishop of Diocese of Kigezi, Rt. Rev Dan Zoreka  (Diocese of Kinkiizi), Rt. Rev Assoc. Prof. Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa  (Ankole Diocese), Rt.Rev Patrick Wakula (Central Busoga Diocese) and Rt.Rev John Wilson Nandaah  (Mbale Diocese.)

Last week (Thursday 29th.Jan), Archbishop Kaziimba arrived in Kigezi Diocese where he bid farewell to the Christians and emphasized peace, unity reconciliation in the aftermath of the 2026 general elections.

 In his sermon, Archbishop Kaziimba called upon Christians to be united for peace and stability of Uganda. He called upon political actors to forgive one another and work together for the goodness of community development.

He officially opened the annual Diocese of Kigezi Brethren Conference. The conference brings together thousands of people at Rugarama Convention Hill in Kabale Municipality. The conference was closed on Sunday.

During the Service, Archbishop Kaziimba launched the Diocese of Kigezi’s five-year strategic plan under the theme, holistically empowered and self sustaining communities. Ephesians 4:11-13.

He commended the Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev Gaddie Akanjuna for his faithful stewardship of the Diocese and servant leadership.

Quick facts about the Church of Uganda

The Church of Uganda (Anglican) became an independent province in 1961. The Church of Uganda was founded in 1877 through the Church Missionary Society. It officially achieved self-governance as a province in 1961.
