BUSHENYI/LYATONDE: Residents of Nkanga and Nyabubare sub counties in Bushenyi district have all the reasons to jubilate after seeing water pipes finally reaching their areas.
This follows a memorandum of understanding between Bushenyi district local government and the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) to extend water to water stressed areas in the district.
The district okayed funds for the department of water and sanitation to be used to extend water in partnership with NWSC.
A fleet of water pipes recently arrived to kick-start this water supply revolution in Bushenyi. They were flagged off by the Bushenyi District Resident Commissioner Emmy Ngabirano at the district headquarters.

Ngabirano commended the district leadership for thinking ‘outside the box.’ “Such partnerships are the way to go if we are to serve our people effectively,” he said.
He said government agencies should not look at each other as competitors when they are serving same people (Ugandans.) “It’s high time we change from our traditional way of doing things,” the RDC observed.
Recently, when President Yoweri Museveni was on his campaign trail in Bushenyi he expressed his happiness with NWSC for water coverage in different districts like Bushenyi where safe water coverage stands at over 85% .
“We are convinced that this partnership modus operandi will increase water supply in Bushenyi and other districts,” Ngabirano commended.
According to NWSC authorities, a similar approach of partnering with local government has worked well in Lyatonde District.
“We had to organize a benchmarking trip for Bushenyi District Local government to Lyatonde district to assess the benefits of such a partnership,” said Eng. Sam Kigundu the Bushenyi district area water Manager. End.
