Authorities of both primary and secondary schools have been challenged not to sit on the children’s/student’s talents but to invest in developing them (talents.)

William Ngabirano the dean of students Kyambogo University said schools should not think that sports promote their schools alone but they (sports) also help the students individually.

Ngabirano said once developed, a student’s talent can make him/her live happily forever.

He was on Saturday officiating at Kyambogo’s 2nd edition sports gala finals which were held at Bushenyi play grounds where he represented the Kyambogo University Vice Chancellor Prof. Elly Katunguka.

A total of 17 secondary schools from Greater Bushenyi Region participated in the gala that saw St. Kagwa high school emerging as this year’s champion after defeating Ijumo secondary school with one goal (against Ijumo’s zero) while Sheema Girls’ secondary school emerged the best after knocking out Shuuku Vocational SS 1-0.

“There are a lot of opportunities in sports and you should always support and encourage children/students to participate,” Ngabirano said.

“Sports are not only based on winning.  Sports are good at promoting unity, team work, networking and fun. You never know where and when these who have participated in this tournament will meet in future,” he argued as he challenged schools.

Ngabirano advised the participants to participate in as many sports activities as they can noting that, “the certificates you get in these competitions will take you somewhere especially accessing both government and private scholarships.” The winning teams walked away with a number of gifts.

The head teachers of secondary schools commended Kyambogo University for engaging the students in such an activity.

Kyambogo runs a branch at Katungu Mother’s union centre in Bushenyi town in Bushenyi/Ishaka Municipality.
