BUSHENYI : The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Women’s League Chairperson, Adrine Kobusigye Mwebesa, has launched a massive grassroots mobilization drive across Bushenyi district ahead of the upcoming Local Council (LC) elections.

Speaking during the newly introduced community barazas (public forums), Ms. Mwebesa revealed that she has already traversed over 20 villages to assess citizen readiness, rally support for NRM flag bearers, and also sensitize households on poverty eradication.

While evaluating the political climate on the ground, Ms. Mwebesa noted that while some rural populations were initially unaware of the specialized nationwide barazas, the response has since been overwhelmingly positive as she expressed great satisfaction with the party’s strong positioning ahead of the LC elections.

A significant number of NRM candidates are running unopposed, signaling deep-rooted grassroots support as the barazas are successfully convincing NRM-leaning independent candidates to return to the party fold and support official flag bearers.

Ms. Mwebesa emphasized that local council leaders (LC1s) are the frontline defense in the government’s dual war against corruption and poverty.

Addressing the gatherings, she reminded residents that wealth creation requires individual effort and accountability, as the government has already laid down the necessary foundation.

‘’Electricity, clean water, and improved road networks have been supplied across communities to facilitate trade because money will not just fall into your hands,” Ms. Mwebesa cautioned, urging citizens to utilize the provided infrastructure to create wealth.

To ensure the sustainability of government wealth programs like the Parish Development Model (PDM), the Women’s League leader challenged local government authorities to step up their efforts. She demanded that local leaders establish rigorous sensitization programs to teach citizens how to properly utilize PDM funds and manage the recovery process so the revolving funds can benefit other waiting households. She urged the public to fiercely demand accountability from government officials and embrace strong leadership starting directly at the grassroots level. End.
